Well, we did it! What did we do? Just about anything and everything you can do when you read The Giant Jam Sandwich ! š We learned about rhyming words. Elijah made a pretend map for Itching Down (and we reviewed cardinal directions). Elijah wrote a great Problem-Solution story. He decided on BEES for his problem and a Giant Peanut Butter & Jelly COOKIE Sandwich for his solution. Too cute.
Elijah dictated to me how to make a sandwich. We tested his directions, and they didn't work. We kept trying until finally he told me to put the peanut butter and jelly on the bread. At that point, I set the jar of peanut butter and the jelly right on the bread. Uncontrollable laughter…from both of us…but he finally was able to articulate how to do it. We tried to go berry picking…we did make strawberry jam. Yummy! We learned about yeast and how it works. We baked some sweet dinner rolls from scratch…double yummy! (These literature based unit studies are going to make me FAT!)
We started off the week at a friend's house where Elijah learned about wasp anatomy, saw some real wasp nests, and did a fun exercise in teamwork with his friend. We've discussed teamwork all week, and Elijah has started helping me more.
We also constructed a lapbook from scratch! I've made eight templates for it, and they will all be uploaded at Homeschool Share in August when all the new stuff is going to be posted. (See pictures of his lapbook above.) He was so proud!

Ami,
both of the lapbooks are great! I think that I love the bread slice accordian the best. So adorable. I'm not familiar with the books, but your ideas look great!
You've got a little one there (a cutie!), and I can see that there's not a lot of writing for him but mostly things you've typed for him. I love that about lapbooking — it can adapt with the child. As my DD is getting older, I have her doing more and more of the design, drawings, and especially the writing.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.
