A few weeks ago Simon's co-op class learned all about owls. It started with a reading of Owl Moon by Jane Yolen.
Salamonie Interperative Services sent us a special guest. She stunned the kids with a stuffed owl– a great horned owl.
Our special guest also had a real owl. A REAL OWL. The kids sat so still and quiet as they listened to our guest and watched the owl.
The kids ate a little owl snack (made of Rice Krispies)
We took a few weeks off for Thanksgiving, but when we started school back up at home, we decided to keep learning about owls.
Elijah read Owls in the Family.
Elijah also drew a very large owl.
His main project of the week was working with Power Point. He read through our library basket and transformed his research into an All About Owls presentation.
I used the Owl Prowl Kindergarten Kit (from Homeschool Share) with Simon.
Simon playing Owl Knock-Out!
Learning about nocturnal animals.
Finding the owls that are the same.
Feeding the owls mice!
Dissecting an owl pellet and finding all kinds of bones!
Playing the feather phonics game. Simon loved hunting down the feathers. I hid them everywhere!
Trying to think of a word that starts with /i/.
Working on his owl art project
Beware! This cute little owl has GLOW IN THE DARK eyes (just use glow paint; I found mine at Hobby Lobby). Simon loves it!
