God created humans with a sense of discovery and exploration. This is obvious to me whenever I watch my 16 month old (playing with a cricket or spider) or my 5 year old (who has touched screws and gotten under things to see how they were put together since he was a little guy).
One of the huge blessings of homeschooling is that no one will be sucking the wonder out of my children. No one will be telling them to hurry up, sit down, or shut up because it’s time to learn about whatever the curriculum guide says.
Lately, Elijah has learned how to get answers to his curious questions. On Monday he asked me, "since dolphins are whales, do they eat people?" Followed with, "Mom, I think we’d better look that up!"
Last night he was watching his caterpillars, and he inquired, "Mom, when do they sleep? All they do is eat, eat, eat! Are they nocturnal?" A few seconds later, "We’d better look that up!"
How sweet it is to hear my boy ask questions about this great big world! How much sweeter for him to want to actively pursue an answer. And sweetest of all is my chance to be by his side while we discover the answers together.

I LOVE it! My Elijah is in the same mode right now. He has a running list of everything he wants to learn about in school. We're the "lucky" ones, aren't we?
(this is Amie from homeschool spot, btw)

Oh, how compassionate God is towards us!!
The verse you have been pondering about and posted on the 28th is telling us our labor is not in vain. God is telling you that in His word and then He gives you you a tangible gift through Elijah's words and joy of learning. What a blessing.

Hi Ami!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me my various first comment ever. I am practically giddy.:o)
I too feel so blessed to get to be a part of the whole learning process. I can't imagine how sad I would feel sending Marissa out each day. I loved looking at all your FIAR ideas. The lapbooks are intriguing–I am not too familiar with these but I think Marissa would love them. I'm off to do some investigating.
Blessings, Janna

Isn't it wonderful that we have the ability as homeschool parents to encourage our children's curiosity! What a blessing from God.
