We had a ton of WILD WILD WEST fun with this one! š
We didn’t get science done on the day I had planned, so Jason helped out one (what a great dad!) night by reading a book about armadillos to Elijah; he also showed Elijah some video footage (online) about armadillos. When he was done, Elijah narrated what he’d learned about armadillos. I typed it up as he spoke. This is what he said:
Most of them live alone.
Some are small and others are big.
Armadillos live in the desert and in South America.
Armadillos like to dig.
Armadillos have bad eyes.
Armadillos roll into balls.
Armadillos can run.
Some armadillos are nocturnal.
Narration is a great tool (that I need to learn more about!). I think it’s important (at this age) to separate the skill of handwriting from the skill of thinking/writing sentences. Narration makes that happen! After we printed his "report" he cut it out and pasted it on his armadillo page. Then he colored the page. He read back over it twice (more learning!) and thought it was super. I think so, too!
